When / Where are the Club Meetings

Interested in joining? We run monthly meetings at Slipstream Brewery on the first Thursday of every second month at 6:00pm. These are free to everyone (you dont need to be a member).

I am totally new to spearfishing? Am I welcome?

We all started somewhere! We welcome spearos of any level. If you are new there is an opportunity to learn from our experienced spearos.

Are we a competition club?

Yes. To have sporting club insurance we are a sports club that runs competitions. However in-house we consider ourselves to be more of a local social club that holds group events.

Im not really that competitive?

Thats completely fine. It’s up to the individual how competitive they want to be. Yes we have a small minority of divers that are competitive however there are plenty, that just like diving socially once a month.

What Events do we hold?

We hold a variety of monthly comps throughout the year. Usually once a month on a Sat or Sun and we also have a yearly comp called the Big 10 where divers can dive when it suits them. Refer to our Club Calendar.

Who is better at shooting a fish, Levi or Kyle?

Some things in life are better kept a mystery…

I am already a member of another AUFQ sport (i.e. Underwater hockey or Freediving)

If you already have an AUFQ membership via another sport (e.g. Underwater Hockey) then all you need to do is pay our club membership fee which is $30. You can pay this directly to the club, then message a member of the committee and we can update your membership in Gameday.

Some benefits of joining our SCS club?

-Your supporting your local club (And you don’t have to live close by, we have members in Gold Coast, Cairns and plenty of members from Bris suburbs who take part in our online and monthly get together competitions)
-Great way of networking, meeting like minded people, creating friendships, getting boat rides, learning from many experienced members and seeing the other 90% of all the members catches that you don’t see, that are shown in the members area.
-Your supporting our sport in Aus. Besides making the spearfishing fraternity larger. Part of your yearly membership money goes to promoting the sport statewide and Nationally. Also some membership money has been used to represent us legally when challenging government body decisions and having a chair to represent our sport at government round table meetings.
-Your insured when you are spearfishing in your “own time” and in club activities*. (*Providing you are following the associations safety rules) Note: Most comprehensive Boat insurance doesn’t cover you for incidents when you are in the water.
-Your able to register state or Aus records. And our SCS is probably the only club that will also reimburse any fees associated with submitting a National record.
-Cost of yearly membership and association insurance is relatively cheap vs other sports. $125 Senior (Over 18), Juniors $65 (U18) 12mth membership from date you join.
-If you play a second or third sport with a AUF affiliated club you don’t need to pay insurance again. (Freediving, Underwater Hockey, Underwater Rugby, Scubadiving, etc)
-And if that’s not enough the last 3 years we’ve raffled off over $20K worth of donated prizes from our sponsors for those that have been involved in our Big 10 Challenge (Online Competition)
