Sunshine Coast Skindivers Big 10 Challenge Competition Rules

Terms & Conditions:

Competition runs: 1st July to 30th June

The Big 10 Challenge is a yearly Competition that can be entered by Sunshine Coast Skindivers Members. You must also be an AUF member and have signed the Clubs indemnity policy. (Read bottom)

By entering Big 10 Challenge Fish into this competition you have agreed to the Big 10 competition rules below and adhere/accept the clubs indemnity policy.

Scoring:
1) The largest fish of each category gets 10pts, second largest 9pts, third largest 8pts and so on.
2) Fish are measured in centimetres (cm). 1cm Increments. There are no 0.5cm measurements. Fish are measured total length Eg: tip of mouth to end of tail (Not fork):

Crayfish are measured on the length of the tail only and are measured from the start of the carapace to the end of the tail:

23cm Crayfish caught by Alex!

3) If two or more fish are the same length they will share the points of that placing and the placing below.
Example: Two contestants have the equal 2nd biggest fish for a category. They will share the points for 2nd (9pts) & 3rd (8pts) placings = 8.5pts each.
The same theory extends for a 3 way or 4 way split.
4) Competitors are able to submit ONLY 2 of each category for the duration of the competition, allowing competitors to upsize their catch once.
5) Fish must be submitted within 30 days of capture. Late submissions will not be accepted.
6) Fish must be photographed clearly on a Brag Mat or tape measure with a phone/watch showing the date of capture*. (Note: *Any fish speared at a monthly club aggregate series competition and measured/photographed does not need to show proof of date of capture in the pic. As it’s deemed to be officially witnessed, weighed and scored in that competition. However it’s recommended where possible that the picture be taken at that competition. If the competitor decides to submit their pic later but within the 30days, the competitor should mention in their submission that the fish was taken at the Club aggregate series competition)

7) Any fish judged to be measured incorrectly or not photographed properly will either have the size reduced or potentially not accepted.
8) Fish should be laid flat, straight (including measuring devices) and not altered or stretched to make the fish longer e.g squeezing the tail section together or opening up the mouth or gill area. Crayfish also must not be altered in anyway.
9) A birds eye view pic should be taken showing the whole fish with measuring device clearly visible. For longer fish a 2nd zoomed in pic of the end of the fish showing the final measurement is recommended.
10) Fish must be entered by submitting pics online to the SCS Members Area and stating that the fish/s are being entered into the Big 10 Challenge.
11) Final calls for accepting specific species into fish Categories will be made by our competition administrator. However as a rule of thumb, competitors should follow the common fish names used by the AUF QLD Spearfishing Records or by the species spreadsheet listed in the Big 10 rules on the clubs website.
12) In the event of a tie in any of the top 3 positions the competitor with the highest amount of 10pt fish will be declared the higher position of the two or more
competitors. After following this method and there is still a tie. The same method will be continued for 9pt fish and so on until a final placing is obtained.
13) Any decisions regarding scoring/entries will be at the discretion of the competition administrator.
Competition By-Laws
14) Fish can only be entered if speared during specified competition dates/season.

15) Fish must be taken in QLD Waters. (Note: As per AUF QLD spearfishing records, fish can be taken as far down as Hastings Point NSW).
16) Fish taken must adhere to state fisheries laws and adhere to minimum and maximum size limits.
17) Any sponsored prizes or trophies are not guaranteed from one season to the next. And raffle prizes are randomly drawn to encourage all competitor levels to enter.

18) Due to the fact that competitors are diving in their own time. Competitors are required to dive in pairs, each person must remain in sight of their buddies float, carry all the necessary safety equipment (A Section Rules) and check in and check out with a competent person advising them the time, destination and when they will be returning as outlined in the AUF’s Code of Practice (COP). SCS also recommends to log your trip with the local coast guard.

*If a person is newly introduced to the competitions or is a previous member that is late to re-sign and then wants to enter a fish shot before they have signed up for membership. At the “discretion” of the competition administrator they may be allowed some leniency to enter the fish/s providing the competition administrator is satisfied with their submission/s and that it is within 30days of capture. The main reason for this ruling is to attract further members to the club or previous members to resign.
Note: Any competitor in the above situation are not covered by insurance until they have signed up officially to the club.
